Want to make your waist look smaller?

Want to make your waist look smaller?

Raise your hand if you:

Want to make your waist/tummy look smaller?

OMG, that’s a lot of hands up!!!!! 😲😲😲

When you need or want, to distract from a wider middle and/or hips, you need to bring attention to your shoulders.

By bringing the eye up, the middle and bottom will be less noticeable.

Use color blocking, patterns, puffy or flouncy shoulders, scarves, and statement necklaces, not a thin strand of pearls or a small pendant-style piece, to bring the focus up and away from below.

The tops below, are examples of how color blocking and a flouncy sleeve can make small shoulders look broader, waists more defined, and take away attention from anything below you may wish was smaller.

Beware Pop-Up Ads

Beware Pop-Up Ads

Raise your hand if you’ve ever fallen head over heels for a dress, shirt, or pair of pants while scrolling through your social media feed, or casually browsing online?

Oh, those vibrant colors, perfectly draped fabrics, and models looking like they’ve just stepped out of a fashion fairytale – it’s like a siren’s song luring us into a sea of shopping temptation.

But here’s the twist: what arrives at your door might resemble what you saw in the ad about as much as flip-flops do to stilettos.

Beware Pop-Up Ads

It’s the classic tale of the bait and switch – the dress that looked like it was spun from dreams turns out to be spun from something that feels like plastic wrap, the color that seemed so alive on your screen is now closer to a distant cousin of its former self, and the fit that was supposed to be tailored perfection ends up making you look more like a makeover before than an after.

Now, let’s talk about quality – or lack thereof. Remember the promise of a luxurious fabric that caresses your skin like a soft summer breeze? Well, brace yourself for something that might feel more like sandpaper in comparison.

It’s not uncommon to discover that the “finely crafted” seams are unraveling at the sight of a gentle tug, or that the buttons have decided to take a leap of freedom just when you’re about to head out the door.

Before you get carried away, take a moment to peek behind the curtain – read reviews, and do a little detective work on the brand’s reputation.

Make sure to share your own stories of successes and letdowns in a review, adding a dash of honesty and clarity to the enchanting mix of online shopping.

If you can hold yourself back, instead of buying from those pop-up ads, try shopping from more traditional retailers and designers.

I’ve made a few mistakes myself, and don’t want you to do so as well. It was a humbling reminder that not all that glitters online turns out to be gold in reality.

True Story

A  dear friend ordered a wild and wacky outfit for a party and brought his purchase over to my house for me to share his experience with you. HERE it is.

Note: the reason you can’t see how extreme the blurriness was like we could, is because the iPhone automatically corrected it.

Ladies, it’s time to shop smarter and say goodbye to fashion regrets! Book a Zoom call with me and find out how I’ll find the perfect clothes for YOU.

No Barbie for me…

No Barbie for me…

It’s Barbie mania out there!

Ah, those Barbie-less wonder years!

Growing up, I was the envy of all the other girls in the neighborhood because I never had a Barbie doll.

NOT!

Oh, my mother was quite the rebel, marching to the beat of her own drum! While everyone else was swooning over those impossibly proportioned dolls, my mom had a different plan for me. She believed in individuality and uniqueness, and she made it her mission to ensure I never felt pressured to conform to societal norms.

Instead of Barbie, she bought me wholesome Tammy and her sister Pepper.

Did you even know those two existed???

It was tough being the one with the different doll, but also educational.

Why be like everyone else?

My mom encouraged me to explore the world of creativity, adventure, and imagination by not copying others. No disappearing into the crowd for me.

When I wanted white Go-Go boots, she bought me orange ones.

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

OK, she took it too far that time, but you get her intention.

Thanks to my mother, I’ve become a personal wardrobe stylist who loves to be unique, and creative.

Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for my mom’s unconventional approach because it instilled in me a deep appreciation for being different and thinking outside the box.

Speaking of boxes, here I am in a Barbie box at the premier of the Barbie movie at The Prospector Theater where my son works.
Definitely check it out.

Here’s to being different!!!

Note: The Prospector Theater is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing competitive and inclusive employment to people with disabilities through the operation of a first-run movie theater and online popcorn business.

Just like Barbie, we all have our own style magic! 🎀 Now, it’s time to embrace what makes you special. Are you ready to transform your style and love the clothes you wear? Book a Zoom call with me to find out how to work with me in person or virtually so you can finally love the clothes you wear and how you look in them.

How To Avoid A Wardrobe Malfunction

How To Avoid A Wardrobe Malfunction

The best stories come from either my clients or the women who want to work with me.

I’ll share one with you a few sentences from here, but first…

We’ve all had the experience of something in our outfit either busting open or barely
fitting properly, and one way to avoid wearing an outfit that will make you very uncomfortable is to sit it out.

Yup, I mean sit down.

I encourage you to sit down when you put an outfit on or try on a new piece of clothing.

If…

  • You feel constricted, hear a strain, or a pop, don’t wear it, and definitely don’t buy it.
  • It is uncomfortable, don’t wear it, and definitely don’t buy it.
  • You tell yourself you’ll lose weight first, don’t wear it, and definitely don’t buy it.
  • You can’t sit down without feeling miserable or potentially embarrassed,
don’t wear it, and definitely don’t buy it.

So, here’s the story from a woman I spoke to this week, who wants my help getting her
closet filled with outfits that will fit, and flatter her.

All she simply wants and will get, are clothes that she can’t wait to wear. Sound familiar?

She wants to replace the mistakes hanging in her closet and showed me one of
her expensive examples.

It was a very pretty 3-piece pant set that a salesperson talked her into buying
for her daughter’s wedding a couple of years ago.

The jacket and pants were nice, but the sleeveless tank was much shorter than what I would have picked out for her. It simply wasn’t long enough to fully cover her stomach.

The tailor she took the outfit too, offered a solution. He would add snaps to connect the tank to her pants. 🤔

That looked great when she was standing, but at the wedding and reception, she was seated.

So what do you think happened when she sat?

Yes, you guessed it…SNAP, SNAP, SNAP!

But, if she had done the sit test, or, even better, had known me back a few years, she would never

have been so self-conscious and uncomfortable on such an important day in her and her daughter’s life.

Take a seat when trying on outfits, and you will know how to avoid a wardrobe malfunction that will ruin your day or night.

I’ve never heard of attaching snaps from a top to a pair of pants, and for good reason. It’s a VERY bad idea.

PS. If you find yourself standing in your PJs each morning, staring into your closet hoping that today’s the day you’ll find an outfit that fits you perfectly…stay tuned for a new and quick way to have a closet full of clothes that makes you confidently happy and stylish!

Why Your Clothes Don’t Fit.

This tiny detail is one of the many reasons why your clothes don’t fit and why you might not have any idea why something is wrong with your outfit, but you can’t quite put your finger on it.

Take a look at my video on YouTube and see what’s in your closet that fits this common fit problem.

Until you can identify all the different styling details, and there are a lot, you will always wonder why your clothes don’t fit the way you think they should.

Pay attention to details in the clothes you wear and buy, and you’ll end up saving money and walking into a room looking and feeling confident, instead of feeling like you can’t quite get it right.

Here’s how I can show you how to be the best-dressed woman in any room, because YOU deserve to love how you look!

Stephen Colbert gave me styling advice!

Yes, it’s true: Stephen Colbert gave me styling advice!

Stephen Colbert gave me styling advice

Yup, that’s my husband and me as VIP guests at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

No, we didn’t plan our outfits but isn’t it weird how couples tend to match without even trying?

As a VIP guest, you have the opportunity to go on stage and ask Stephen questions off camera, and being one who never shies away from an opportunity, I quickly raised my hand and he picked me to ask away.

Here’s what I asked, and as a personal stylist I simply couldn’t resist:

“What is the first thing you take off and put on when you get home after work?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, he told me the first thing he puts on before he walks through the door is a smile for his wife.

I mean come on, how wonderful is that????

And he’s right. The best accessory is a smile, and when you’re wearing clothes that make you look and feel confident and attractive, smiling is so, so much easier. It’s automatic.

Speaking of smiling, here is an unsolicited testimonial a client gave me, that made me smile and tear up. I’d be crazy not to share it with you.

“My experience with Scarlett was a wonderful internal and external journey. I not only experience joy getting dressed every day, but was reminded that it’s okay to wait for something I actually like.

Moving to Southern California from San Francisco, I noticed that if I wasn’t wearing athletic clothes,  I was often asked,  “Why are you so dressed up.”  This was even if I was wearing jeans.  Eventually, my San Francisco clothes got old, and my style became frumpy and drab.

Scarlett’s online closet, where I saw all my worn and over-washed clothes, helped me see that I have really neglected my esthetics for some time.

As a psychotherapist, it has been an illuminating internal journey.

Being the 3rd sister growing up, I was used to oversized hand-me-downs, which were clothes I never liked but accepted. As an adult, I often settled for colors and styles that were just mediocre.

What I appreciate about Scarlett is that she was not offended if I didn’t like what she picked out and assured me she was not the designer and was fine with it.

She did a great job learning my style and I would recommend her to anyone who wants to refresh their wardrobe.

I now have new shoes, jeans, belts, dresses, and great workout clothes.  I loved it!  An excellent project of self-love and self-respect.  I highly recommend Scarlett to help you find your inner queen again.”

How To Stop Losing Money In Your Closet

Here’s how to stop losing money in your closet…and it’s so easy.

Stop taking your price tags off!!

Stop it!!

When you hastily cut the price tags off, you lose your chance to get your money back.

I’ve seen way too many clothes hanging in my client’s closets that were never worn or returned.

No more wasting money on clothes you shouldn’t or won’t wear.

And, that’s why you should…

Try them on in the dressing room.

Try them on again at home.

Try them on with the right shoes…not your bare feet. This makes a big difference…trust me.

And try them on again, with the rest of your outfit before you snip that price tag off.

Maybe you got a great deal on it, but until you know for sure it’s keeper, don’t take the price tags off.

And, if it isn’t right for you, return it. That’s how to stop losing money in your closet.

Keep your money to use for clothes that you should, and will love to wear.

Scary question: How much money do you think you’ve spent on clothes you don’t wear?

Send an email to Scarlett@ScarlettImage.com, if you want me to show you the clothes that are taking the price tag off worthy for you.

How To Look Better In Jeans

Who else has spent hours, days, or years trying to find jeans that fit and flatter?

Let’s face it, finding a pair of jeans that we can get into and zipped, is as frustrating as trying on bathing suits.

Actually, worse because we can sit by the pool not wearing a bathing suit.

We could wear jeans…

and now we’re right back struggling to find a pair that make our tush and tummy look good.

Today I’m going to share tips on how to look better in jeans & where to find them.

The search began for me decades ago, and as my body, designs, and fabrications have changed, so have the jeans that look good on me and likely you as well.

How To Look Better In Jeans

Watch my video below to see why rolling up or shortening
your jeans can be
a thumbs up or down, and so much more.

NOTE: I still love skinny-legged jeans, which is what I’m wearing in the above photos, despite the current trend of more baggy-shaped jeans being pushed on us.
Skinny/narrow styles can make your legs look longer and leaner when worn with longer tops, and if this shape isn’t right for you because it truly isn’t flattering on everyone, try straight-legged jeans.
Straight-legged have a bit more wiggle room, without adding unnecessary width to your body.

Grab all my jeans suggestions below.

Here are my current favorite jeans for you to try.

Questions, suggestions, or thank you my butt looks great comments?
Send them my way to Scarlett@ScarlettImage.com.
