Holiday Style Tip

The Easiest Way to Spark Holiday Style

Let’s be honest: wearing the exact same outfit you wore to last year’s holiday party is… well, boring. And buying something new for every event? Exhausting, expensive, — and unnecessary. One of my favorite  tricks is adding a sparkly pin to a simple outfit. Suddenly that plain sweater or classic blazer becomes festive, fun, and totally “I’ve-got-it-together.”

You likely have a few old sparkly pins gathering dust in a long-forgotten box.

The photo above shows my small collection.

A pretty, but not Christmas, pin draws attention up to your face—where it belongs—and instantly adds personality without spending a dime on a whole new look. When in doubt? Put a pin on it.

And here’s where the magic happens: that little burst of sparkle makes even your most basic outfit look brand new. Try placing a pin on the lapel of a blazer for a bit of elegance, at the neckline for a touch of glam, or even on a scarf if you’re feeling extra fancy. You’ll look festive, fun, and fashionable… all while avoiding the “didn’t she wear that last year?” whispers.

Sparkle, shine, and feel fabulous… all in something you already own with great Holiday Style.

Tip To Get Your Makeup Drawer Under Control

Tip To Get Your Makeup Drawer Under Control

Here’s a tip to get control of your makeup drawers!
If you’ve ever opened your makeup drawer and felt like you were staring into a cosmetic black hole, you’re not alone. Most of us have what I lovingly call a “makeup junk drawer”—the place where good intentions go to hide under half-used palettes and long-forgotten samples.
Here’s a tip that will instantly give you breathing room: toss your UMOs—Unidentifiable Makeup Objects.
Yes, those mystery lipsticks, ancient eye pencils, and tiny jars you don’t even remember you had or know you’ll never use.
Just because you got the lipstick for free doesn’t mean it deserves permanent residency in your drawer. I adore a great GWP (gift with purchase) as much as anyone, but let’s be honest: those freebies are expert squatters. They take up space, create clutter, and rarely end up being the products we actually reach for. If you already know you’ll never wear that bold shade or use that random skin-care packet, let it go.
And here’s the feel-good part: instead of tossing perfectly good (unused) items, consider donating them to a women’s shelter or community center. Something you’ll never touch again might bring confidence and joy to someone who truly needs it. Cleaning up your  stash while making someone else’s day? That’s a win-win.
Ultimately, keep only what works for you—the shades that flatter, the products that make getting ready feel effortless rather than overwhelming. When your makeup drawer contains only what you love and actually use, you’ll save space, time, and sanity. And every morning, instead of digging around like you’re on a cosmetic treasure hunt, you’ll easily find what you need and start your day feeling beautifully organized.
Travel Tip – Save the sample sizes and small jars of the products you do like for when you travel. I keep those separately in my toiletry bag, ready to go!

Here’s How To Help Your Feet Hurt Less

Here’s How To Help Your Feet Hurt Less

Oh, I know you know how awful it is to get all dressed up for an event, put on those pretty shoes, and dread the pain that will likely soon follow.

Here’s my tip to help your feet hurt less for these longer events, like weddings, galas, parties, etc.

Wear two pairs of shoes.
No, not at once.
I mean one, after another.

This past weekend, I attended my brother-in-law’s wonderful wedding and wore sandals I specifically bought for the occasion that were comfortable and appropriately sparkly. 🙂

But I also brought another pair of sandals with me to the reception. Comfortable, without sparkle, black, and simple.

After close to 6 hours in my glittery sandals, my feet began to tell me they were not anywhere near as happy as the Happy Couple were.

Since there were about two more hours left in the reception, plus the ride home, I pulled out my spare sandals and made the switch.

And guess what happened??

Nobody noticed! But my feet went ahhhhhh.

When you switch your shoes, your feet feel relieved, and you’re ready to hit the dance floor…again.

PS My husband was the best man, and the ceremony was a Catholic Mass, which is why I was in those shoes for so many hours.

Client Love ❤️
And then she said…

“It’s been a bucket list item of mine to hire a stylist for years, but I continued to tell myself that I’ve been dressing myself for over fifty years and doing ok, so why pay for it? I can figure it out. Then I had to empty my bedroom and closet for the installation of a new carpet. The time had finally come to get an expert’s eye to guide me on what should go back in. So, I hired Scarlett and we got to work. Four and a half hours and five Hefty bags later, I sighed a HUGE feeling of relief, grateful that I got help. Plus, she was able to put together a bunch of outfits for me in ways I had never thought of before. Another big win! My only regret was not getting help sooner.” – KRISTEN HALLETT RZASA

What to wear when shopping

What to wear when shopping

Do not wear a dress when you go clothes shopping.
Please watch this short video to find out why.

It’s much easier to see how a top looks if you’re wearing pants or a skirt versus a dress.

And then she said…

“Working virtually with Scarlett has been a fun process, a small commitment with a big payoff.  By trusting Scarlett and giving things a try I never thought I would like, I understand now what will look good, what to buy, and have an idea of what to pair it with. I got rid of a lot of clothes, shoes, and coats I’ve been storing and never wearing! In their place are items that flatter my face and shape, and everything can be combined in different ways. It’s so much easier to get dressed, and I feel much more confident. My biggest lesson was that just because something looks great on someone else, it doesn’t mean it will look great on me!  Thank you, Scarlett!!” Katherine Heer

Summer To Fall Outfit Tips

Summer To Fall Outfit Tips

Transitioning from summer to Fall dressing can be tricky.

Equally challenging is deciding how to dress for warm weather in the Fall.
You don’t want to look too Summery, and you don’t want to be hot in heavier clothes when it is in the 70s or above in September and October.

Rather than stressing over what to wear, try the following summer-to-fall outfit tips to easily put together an outfit that looks stylish and feels just right for the season.

Summer To Fall Outfit Tips

    1. Wear neutral or earth-toned colored shoes, as in my photo above.
    2. Choose sling-back shoes instead of boots. See above.
    3. Combine lighter colored tops with darker jeans or pants. See above.
    4. Or wear darker tops with lighter colored jeans or pants.
    5. Switch to deeper-toned handbags. See above.
    6. Wear a sleeveless top under a lightweight fitted jacket like the denim one I’m wearing at the Grand Canyon below.
    7. Avoid wearing tropical colors and prints. Save them for vacations or next Spring. They’ll be here before you know it.

Style + Comfort? Yes, please.

I recently discovered a wonderful company called Ally Shoes—the makers of the pretty slingbacks I’m wearing.

They design stylish, comfortable shoes in a wide range of widths, from hard-to-find narrow to extra wide, and can even customize them to fit your needs.

They’re a bit more of an investment than your usual pair, and worth it for the comfort and quality.

Clothing size doesn’t matter!

Clothing Size Doesn’t Matter

Don’t let the size label ruin your shopping!

Ever find yourself in your bedroom or a dressing room determined to get into a pair of pants no matter how long it may take to get them on?

If the label is showing a size that you have worn before, surely it will fit again because darn it, your willpower is way bigger than your thighs, right?

Wrong. In the case of finding clothes that fit and flatter, size doesn’t and shouldn’t matter.

Way too often a woman beats herself up because the size she used to wear or wants to be in is no longer is an option. Rather than once again vowing you won’t eat much that day or actually use your gym membership, try not to focus on the size label but instead concentrate on how your clothes fit the body you have.

I am not trying to discourage women from healthy diets and exercise, but if it has been awhile since you swore you would lose that baby fat 25 years ago, or the extra weight you gained attending college and you are close to attending your own child’s college graduation, isn’t it time to let go of the smaller size label and focus instead on properly fitting into the size you are now?

Imagine a man going into a store looking for a new pair of pants and discovering that the 34 waist he typically wears is a bit snug. He doesn’t storm out irritated or squeeze into the too-tight pants barely able to walk. Rather the angel of men’s clothing departments, also known as the tailor, descends upon him and his salesperson with his magic tape measure and turns the next size up into the perfect fitting pair of pants.

Ladies, you too can have your own fit angel, except you have to seek him or her out in better stores or in your locality.

So if the size 10 pants, top or dress is snug in some spots go up one size, and have a tailor take in the loose fitting areas. Then you will have clothes that fit like they were made just for you.

Keep in mind that nobody gets a compliment based on the size printed on his or her clothing. Compliments and comfort occur from how great your clothes fit when tailored for your curves.

Being a size six does not equal happiness and success. Having a wardrobe that opens up doors for you can lead you to possibilities beyond your wildest dreams.

I have size 18 clients who are far better dressed than the Twenty Somethings they work with, because they stopped waiting to lose weight before investing in proper fitting and flattering clothes.

Alert: Try not to have distaste for the larger size labels. One of my clients once did. She so hated seeing what size she wore, that she had cut out the size tag out of EVERY single piece of clothing she owned, so that when I got to her home she had no idea what size she or any of her clothes were.

What was also interesting is that she disliked almost all of her clothes and had not gone shopping for new ones for years. She complained so much about never having anything to wear despite a closet full of tagless pieces, that her husband hired me to end her daily lament.

After I showed her what clothes would look great on her and how size wasn’t what was causing her fear of figuring out what to wear, it was time to go shopping for the right clothes.

This was a very easy decision to make. What size to select for her to try on was not. So do yourself a favor, and think of size tags the same as those tags on mattresses with the warning label; Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law.
