She Wants To Cover Up Her Arms

She Wants To Cover Up Her ArmsAlmost every woman I know and work with, wants to cover up her arms 365 days of the year.

  • Even when her arms are just fine, yet hates how they look, she wants to cover up her arms.
  • Even if it 100 degrees outside, she wants to cover up her arms.
  • So when it comes to finding a dress for a wedding, cocktail party, Bar Mitzvah, etc. I must find a stunning dress that, well you know, covers up her arms. FYI I always do.

Well, I found this sheer shawl top, $75, that would be gorgeous over any sleeveless dress or top that you already own or will be buying.

It is made by Mariella Design . I discovered it in the Christmas Market in Grand Central Station in NYC. I did not take a  very good photo..sorry.

I asked my Santa for the $120 wool version in red for myself.

Hey, I’ve been a very good girl this year!

Did you know that I offer on-line shopping for woman all over the country?

Oh yeah I do. Check it out here in my Rose service.

“Scarlett completely transformed how I feel about getting dressed to go out of the house.  Instead of dreading figuring out what to wear, I look forward to choosing what I’ll put on. Using the clothes I already owned along with those bought when shopping with Scarlett, I feel more confident and finally look
“put together” thanks to her expert advice. Thank you!”

Is Your Food Impacting Your Style?

Is Your Food Impacting Your Style?

This is a first for me, but based on how often I hear a woman talk about how much she struggles with her body image issues, I want you to read this guest post from Nina Manolson. She really gets it and knows how to change the damaging negative self talk.
She and I have a lot in common. We want YOU to feel great about yourself.
Is Your Food Impacting Your Style?

“I know you’ve seen them – women who radiate style and beauty. They may not even be wearing the most fabulous outfit – but they shine – because they feel good from the inside out.

There’s a French saying that sums up this feeling quite perfectly – “Je me sens bien dans ma peau” – I feel good in my own skin!

That’s what we women want, right…to feel good in our own body.

But often we don’t.

It’s not that we don’t know how to. Sure we do. We know we “should” be drinking more water or eating more greens. That’s not the mystery.

The big mystery in feeling good in our own skin is how to actually make it happen!

  • You’re busy! (Not a lot of time in the kitchen & staying up late!)
  • You’re stressed! (Cranky and going for whatever food is within reach.)
  • You’re taking care of others! (Where is that ‘me’ time?)

I get it! I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to not be taking great care of myself and having that inner conversation about my dress hugging my tush too much, or thinking my top makes my arms look too big. I’ve had those painful conversations in the mirror that tell me to go on another diet! And I want to tell you – from both the perspective of being on the other side (living in a body I’ve learned to love) and from helping many, many women feel good in their bodies – these self-critical voices can stop!

You can feel great in your body!

You deserve to get dressed in the morning radiating your style from the inside out.

Here are 3 tips to get you living your style from the inside out. (Be sure to take advantage of tip #3, it’s a powerful resource that’s free and available for you right now!)

  1. Take 3 long full breaths – yup right now.

I know, you’ve heard it before, but really, it makes a difference. Breath in for the count of four, hold your breath for a moment and exhale for the count of 4. Do it 4 times.

This type of rhythmic and slow breathing resets your nervous system. It shifts us from stress mode into relaxation mode. It’s hard to be loving yourself when you’re in stress mode. It’s hard to look really radiant and shine your natural style when you’re stressed out! When we’re relaxed we not only look more beautiful, but we also boost our metabolism and calorie burning capacity!

  1. Choose clothes that excite your senses.

Wear colors you love, or textures that are soft and sexy feeling, or perhaps put on something super cozy and safe feeling. Get your sensuality involved. When we connect to our sensuality, we also gain access to pleasure. Pleasure relaxes us (see above for the powerful effects of relaxation).

There’s nothing quite as stylish as a women who radiates sensuality and pleasure! That is truly feeling good in our own skin!

  1. Get Support to make a real shift from “knowing” what to do to feel your best, to actually “doing” it!

If you’re struggling because you know you’re not eating right, but you just can’t seem to stop, ask for help. Stop being at war with your body and food, and step into a truly nourishing approach.

Check out my free call: “I KNOW I’M NOT EATING RIGHT BUT I JUST CAN’T SEEM TO STOP”. This will help you identify what’s keeping you in the painful “I wish I hadn’t eaten that” pattern.

If eating too much sugar, or eating late at night (or eating too much) is cramping your style (and not just your clothing style), I want to encourage you to stop the lonely war with yourself and instead reach out for guidance. This class is a great first step.

Try these 3 ways to get your inner style radiating and let me know how it goes for you!

Then, Don’t!

Scarlett

I love the Christmas season. I love the decorating, family traditions, shopping for special gifts, and the food. Basically I seem to enjoy just about all the things that often seem to stress out others.

However I only do what brings me and those close to me a smile.

This year, I simply want to ask you to try to do the same.

Start with something small and simple.

If you don’t like how you feel in a pair of pants, dress or top, then don’t wear them.

If you don’t like how a lipstick looks on you, don’t wear it.

If a cream stings and iiritates your skin, then don’t apply it anymore despite the $$$ you may have paid for it.

If a pair of shoes are laying dusty on the floor of your closet, because when you wear them you get pain shooting in your feet, then don’t wear or keep them anymore.

Instead of Following Nike’s slogan Just Do It, I say Don’t Do It.

Scarlett“I yearned to look as good on the outside as I felt on the inside but lacked the know how to get there.I scrolled through Scarlett’s website saying YES; this woman knows my pain!
I DO stress about dressing. I DO waste time and money accumulating clothes which don’t flatter me.
We arranged a shopping date and when I arrived at the store dressing room, Scarlett had culled an entire wardrobe for me based on a questionnaire and some photos I had sent her. 99% of the items (slacks, tops, sweaters, boots, hats, jewelry, coats) suited me to a tee; all fit well and enhanced my coloring. My new look elicited compliments from every one of the gals. I meet with on Friday night.
THANK YOU Scarlett for you expertise in navigating the very stressful, overwhelming world of style, brands and products.” Jane Coakley NY

Skeleton In Your Closet?

Skeleton In Your Closet

A friend of mine, let’s call her Phyllis; decided she wanted to ‘crash’ her grown son’s Halloween party. Oh, but what to be and wear?

Phyllis uses a cane on occasion for an old back injury, and chose it as her inspiration to attend her son’s soiree as an elderly Grandmother, visiting from her home in Boca Raton, Florida.

Naturally, she thought that she would need to go shopping at a thrift shop or Good Will, to find the pieces to create an outfit that would convey the stereotype of an older woman who hasn’t updated her wardrobe or style in a very, very long time.

Skeleton In Your Closet

She dug through racks of clothing and found a gold lame blouse circa 1975 Saturday Night Fever, with a giant pointy collar, and a shimmer reminiscent of a 50s Christmas tree decked with tinsel.

Skeleton In Your ClosetPerfect!

Next, she scoured boxes of costume jewelry and came up with oversized gaudy, sparkly earrings that were so wrong, yet so right for her costume creation.

On the night of the party, she donned her faaaabulous finds, drew on exaggerated eyebrows, applied lipstick as though her eyes were closed, hunched over and stood in front of her mirror, completely satisfied with her over the top ensemble. She was delightfully unrecognizable and completely dressed to invite stares and laughter and even the admiration of her son for her disguise.

Just one little twist to this story: Phyllis never did need to leave her home to find her costume. Surprisingly, she had all she needed where she lived!

Those racks she scoured were in her spare bedroom and the boxes of unworn jewelry were in her bedroom drawers.

The lesson to learn is that if you can create a costume from your own old and unworn clothing and accessories, there is clearly something spooky going on in your home. It is time to review and remove the clothes that really should be donated to Good Will and clean out the cob webs made out of your threads.

Note: This is a true story and not a scary campfire tale.

If I scared you with this spooky tale, I apologize. Having clothes that no longer fit or look good on you in your closet is very scary because you are losing out on easily finding what to wear plus knowing what you actually have in there.

An Oops In Print

When it comes to prints, placement is the key to a great look or a big oops.

You can emphasize a body part that you may or may not love with where a print lays on you.

Broad shouldered, then don’t wear a print that goes across from side to side.

Are You Strapped?

Changing handbag straps

Changing handbag straps

I found this hand bag/tote for a client on one of my virtual personal shopping trips for her, and she loved it, but…..

Pros:
Vegan (not leather)
Roomy enough for papers
Not bulky
Lightweight
Great price

Cons: Short handles and prefers cross over straps

I don’t accept cons!

So, I had to put on my thinking cap and thought aloud: “Let’s attach longer handles”. However, she did not have any, so Google was my next move, and that is when I found:

Attachable Straps/Handles for Handbags & Purses – Leather, Chain, Nylon, Canvas | Mautto

The straps on the bag she bought from the on-line shopping list I sent her, had removable handles so replacing with straps long enough to cross over her body was a snap. Okay, not a snap but a hook using replacement handles, and voila, you have a bad that fits your needs.

Now, go get a handle on it, and makeover the bags you no longer wear due to handles that need replacing, lengthening to even shortening.

If you are not on my list, then you won’t get weekly shopping & what to wear tips. Ya know, you really should enter your name and email below.

She used many of my fun accessories and jewelry to create outfits that I love and didn’t even know existed in my own closet.
I had a ball with Scarlett and I feel on top of the moon!” Merrill Stone NYC

Sometimes It’s Fantastic To Be A Heel

What to wear tips

Finding products to rave about and share with you can be expensive, because I want to buy them as much as I want to share them with you. Maybe more.

I read about Kara Mac and her genius shoes, in a business journal close to a year ago, and contacted her via social media only about 2 months ago.

I wish I hadn’t waited so long.

We finally met at Starbucks, where else, and she brought me her shoes, heels and trims.

BLISS! Shoes are the best accessory, and when they are comfortable and look good, I helplessly and joyfully fall in love.

And this time, my shopping, and shoe affair, has only begun. So far I purchased the heeled ankle boots and I plan on also buying the flats and sandals.

And then they arrived.

What to wear tips

Here is the beauty of this shoe company. You change the heels!! I bought 3 different heels, and if you include the black heels that the boots come with, I now have 4 boots in 1.

My heels match my clothes, personality and feet! They are true to size and very, very comfortable.

The heels are interchangeable, so if I had the pumps I could use my boot heels and add the front trims so as to create lots of styles.

When I get the flat sandals and flat patent shoe, I will be able to switch the heels between the 2 styles.

Imagine the possibilities for travel

Get the details and possibilities on KaraMac.com. I promise you’ll be amazed and impressed.

What to wear tips

“I don’t know if Scarlett has ever been described as a clothes-whisperer, but now that I have worked with her online and over the phone, when I went on my first shopping trip afterwards, I heard her lilting voice in my head saying, encouragingly. . .remember to stick with the colors and necklines that are best for you. It made shopping much easier, and I am delighted with the how great I feel in what I selected. Thank you, Scarlett.”

Please Don’t Get All Choked Up

trends to avoid

My list is growing of trends to avoid.

Please don’t get all choked up about this, but here is another trend that should not be followed without first accessing if it is right for you.

Avoid choker style necklaces if:

1. You have a short neck

2. You have a round face

The worst side effect: the appearance of a double chin.

Note: Same guidelines go for Turtle, Mock or Mandarin neck style tops.

trends to avoid“Scarlett has brightened my world. And I mean that literally. My closet before Scarlett, was filled with basic black. Interesting pieces, but pretty much all black. With Scarlett’s finely tuned editing, and her encouraging coaching, I’ve integrated color into my everyday dressing. The result is that I look and feel much lighter (maybe even a bit younger!) and the color makeover is way more in tune with my personality than the black uniform was. Scarlett made this process fun and I look forward to seeing her again for a seasonal tune-up.” Nancy Zola
