Tips To Know Which Boot Style To Wear

Tips To Know Which Boot Style To Wear

Boots can be warm.
Boots can be cool.
Boots are comfortable.
Boots are stylish.
Boots can elevate an outfit.

But, the wrong style boot will ruin your styling efforts.

Here are some boots do’s and don’ts.

If you are less than 5’2 or have wide calves, do not wear mid-calf boots because…

When a boot hits at the widest part of your lower leg it will visually make it look wider and your legs look shorter.

I couldn’t find a photo showing how bad this can often look, as retailer’s websites won’t display wide calves with mid-calf boots, but this look is often seen with Ugg mid-calf boots.

Tips To Know Which Boot Style To Wear

Most women want to look leaner and taller, so mid-calf boots are not our friend.

If you have wide calves…

Use search filters when online shopping for wide calf boots and look for boots with stretch fabrics versus all leather.

and…

If you can’t find knee-hi boots to fit your calves, then I strongly suggest trying wearing ankle boots. I live in these style booties and they tend to visually lengthen and thin out legs.

This pair by Blondo, are waterproof and very similar to a few that I own.

If you’re petite in height and don’t have wide calves, then go for knee hi boots as another option.

Above all…Remember, these boots are made for walking.

Are You Tidying Up With Marie Kondo?

Tidying Up with Marie Kondo

Ready to tidy and toss?

So here’s what I’m talking about. There is a Netflix series, “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo,” and it gained lots, and I mean lots of attention.

It all started with the great success of Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

It’s so freeing and yes, fun to have an organized home.

Especially your clothing closets and drawers.

To be clear, I’m a wardrobe stylist and not an organizer, but when you’re closet is only filled with clothes that fit well and look great on you, you’ll find it easy to get rid of the pieces that “don’t bring you joy” and the outcome is always a better looking and more organized closet.

I especially like her tip on how to fold clothes and scarves in drawers. You can see her method in the post I wrote here, right after I had read her book.

In order to get out the clothes that are unflattering, you need to know what to look for and to avoid, and that’s why last year I created a free closet clean out challenge called End Your Closet Shame and an on-line Course Dress Without Stress.  NOTE: The course is sold out now and will re-open in late spring.

Take a look at her book and Netflix show to get
you inspired to toss and tidy up.

How about it? Ready to tidy and toss?

Shhh…Listen In To A Virtual Styling Call

Eavesdropping Alert!!

Finally, I’m caught on camera hearing what EVERY client tells me and it takes less than 17 Seconds To Hear My Favorite Words.

No Blahs… Only Bravos Allowed For 2018

Let’s not remember our failures over our successes.

Today I’m not going to give you any styling or shopping advice. Instead, please allow me to share my personal BRAVOS, and not tell you ANY of my 2018 BLAHS.

  1. I applied for the first time and was accepted to speak at the  NAPO, National Association of Productivity Professionals, conference in Chicago this year. It’s a big deal to be chosen and was one of my career goals.
  2. Forgot my iPad Pro in the security bin at the Milan Italy airport, and didn’t realize it until I was home the next day. My bravo is that even after 1 week of emailing, calling, and checking their online lost & found, I did not stop trying to get it back. After 1 1/2 weeks it showed up on their website, and it’s back in my hands. Never give up!
  3. Lost 5 lbs, and that’s just enough for me to have one less roll in my baker’s dozen.
  4. Had a very successful re-launch of my online course.
  5. Our daughter got engaged to a GREAT guy! Whew.
  6. Our son was a candidate for and received, via tough surgeries, a sci-fi RNS device to attempt to reduce his uncontrolled seizures. I’m only doing the bravo part of this story here…
  7. I had the privilege of working with 10 new clients in person and 15 more virtually. Their joy lifts me up.
  8. Met wonderful women via networking, many of whom are in the wonderful and intimate group  Entrepreneurial Woman’s Club.
  9. I have YOU as one of my readers and I thank you for that.

We ALL could use a bit of self-boosting, as we, myself included, tend to remember our failures over our successes.

So what are some of your 2018 BRAVOS? Please share in the comments space below, and let’s celebrate together.

My Favorite Things For You and Yours

Let’s be honest for many, like me, December is a magical, festive, and often exhausting time of year.

And you know what? I LOVE it!!

It’s the time of year I ask my Santa, of the last 30+ years, for things that might be a splurge, but are worth it and I consider well-earned treats.

And a time for me to give much-deserved gifts to those I love and care for.

So here are a few of my favorite things that I discovered and love and I hope you will as well. They’ll save you time, money, and aggravation while reducing a bit of gift shopping stress.

Most importantly, they just might make you feel as special as you truly are.

No More Size Shaming!

I apologize in advance if I seem a bit angry in this video.

If you have any size shaming stories to tell, please put them in the comments below, and let’s unite to stop the madness!

Pssst…Overheard In The Dressing Room

I’ve helped many women find the perfect dress to wear to their son or daughter’s wedding, and now that our daughter recently got engaged, soon it will be time to find a dress for myself. No pressure! Ha!

Here is her engagement photo, taken after saying YES!! And we’re so happy she found a great guy and a very cute dog too.

What Shoe Shapes Are Out Of Style?

Ever wonder what shoe shapes are out of style?

Every time I review a client’s closet’s contents, try saying that 3 times fast… she asks:

“Are these shoes out of style?”

And lately, my answer is almost always…”NO.”

Why no you ask?

Because these days almost all toe shapes, pointy, round or Square are ‘in’.

Same for heels. Kitten, stiletto, wedge, block, or chunky are all fine to wear but do wear the ones best for your feet and lifestyle.

Pssst. I’m not a huge fan of most square-toed shoes as they tend to make feet and outfits harsher looking.

You can see this is true by looking at the recent style feature in a magazine.

What Shoe Shapes Are Out Of Style?

The only real toe shape exception would be the ones that are so pointy, they could be used as a weapon by a sexy villain in a James Bond movie.

HALLELUJAH

Want to know what is going out of style? PAIN!

Shoe designers are creating more and more styles meant to get us where we’re going with style while helping to maintain our sanity.

Women are now choosing comfort for healthy feet and minds, over agony for the sake of looking good.

Note: If your shoes are worn out beyond help, then those are indeed ‘out of style’ and it’s time to say goodbye to the shoes and boots that will make you cringe if you bumped into someone and they looked down at your feet.

Pssst…Overheard In The Dressing Room

I once had a client who used to always wear some sort of Spanx like undergarment.
When I took her shopping she was in her Spanx trying on clothes and I found her a very flattering dress for work, speaking, and networking, but it was a size too small.
While she was looking at her reflection in the 3 -way mirror outside of her dressing room, and I was about to get it for her in one size up, another store customer passed by and without either of us asking for her opinion, proclaimed quite loudly:

“Oh just put on a pair of Spanx, and it’ll look great!”

Thud. Ouch. And, who asked you??? It was so hard for me to smile and say nothing as protecting my client’s feelings was all I cared about.

Have you ever gotten unsolicited and hurtful advice from a stranger in a dressing room?

Our hands are a give-a-way to our age, so here is a tip my friend told me her fancy dermatologist gave her:

Apply sunscreen with zinc just like a hand-screen. Keep it in your car, as your hands on the steering wheel get lots of sun without you even realizing it.

Here’s the one I use.

No Matter What Shape Or Size You Are, You Can Wear These

Be sure to read through to get a new resource for affordable and interesting jewelry that I traveled thousands of miles to find.

*****************************************************************************

No Matter What Shape Or Size You Are, You Can Wear These

You know how sometimes, okay many times, you have clothes that used to fit or are a bit snug and gathering dust in your closet waiting for another chance?

I certainly know that feeling, and it really stinks that the size we wear is likely not the same as it was a few, or many, years ago.

The good news is that there are some very important one-size-fits-all all things we can wear no matter what shape or size we may be.

Even though you already know them, be sure to choose interesting and flattering versions.

  1. Earrings – see the link below for inspiration.
  2. Necklaces – ditto regarding the below link.
  3. Scarves – Nordstrom, TJMax, and Marshalls have great selections.
  4. Shoes – get a few pairs that are more stylish than basic. Comfortable no longer means ugly.
  5. Handbags – get a bag in a fun color or print & stop wearing a bag that is worn down and dare I say, boring.
  6. Eyeglasses and/or sunglasses – in colors and shapes that compliment your facial features and outfits. See the great resource for those in the New Jersey area.

I mean let’s think about the following:
Waists tend to go out and in.
Size tends to go up and down.

But….the list above will still fit you with very, very few exceptions.

Below are a few new resources I found for you to take a look at.

No Matter What Shape Or Size You Are, You Can Wear These

I was seeking shelter during a typical brief rainstorm while exploring London, so I stepped inside the inviting store Oliver Bonas. They had tons of interesting jewelry that looked much more expensive than it is, and when I got home I discovered that they provide the option to buy their designs here in the U.S. via their website.

No Matter What Shape Or Size You Are, You Can Wear These

Below you can see me wearing the $38 necklace I bought and immediately wore. Since I stick to certain colors, it matches all the clothes I had packed for my trip to Europe.

P.S. When I showed it to fashion business husband, he thought it cost more than $100! BINGO!

No Matter What Shape Or Size You Are, You Can Wear These

Another great resource that one of my lovely clients introduced me to, is
Private Eyewear.  They are based in New Jersey and depending on where you live or work, will come to you and help you select frames that flatter your face shape, features, and personal style.

Glasses are on our faces, so don’t lose sight, pun intended, of how important they are to your outfits and personal style.

There is one more surprise one-size-fits-all-all accessory…

CONFIDENCE!!! The MUST HAVE ONE SIZE FITS ALL for all.

Confidence looks great on all and makes anyone who wears it, feel strong, brave, and ready for new challenges. The word even comes up quite often in testimonials.

See below for confidence Exhibit A.

Thank you, Scarlett, for helping me let go of the stress of dressing.  You really helped me gain control. Most of all, thank you for the CONFIDENCE that you instilled. Dressing will be much more fun!  Cindi Melkerson cynthiamelkerson.arbonne.com

I’m often asked: How do travel with only a carry-on? How do you do it?
Well, one of my tricks is that I take mini sizes of almost all toiletries and makeup.
One trick is that I put my foundation in a vial that was a sample from another product. It easily holds enough for a week.
Another is that I buy from vs. in the store itself because they offer great samples with online orders. These sample sizes and the mini products you get with their membership point system are fantastic.

Hair products, lipsticks, moisturizers, cleansers, etc are in tiny sizes and take up much less room than their full-size counterparts.
