Organizing Systems For Your Whole Family

I confess: I am an organizing junkie.
So much so that I am often referred to as a closet organizer, which I am NOT.

My client’s closets are always more organized after working with me, because the contents are only the clothes that look good on them, plus I arrange her clothes using my organizing systems.
After hearing lots of buzz about the Japanese professional organizer Marie Kondo, I wanted, well I had to read her book,  The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.

Turns out her decluttering or in her words tidying, suggestions for clothes are what I have been using with my clients for almost 10 years. If only I had written them down in a book form, I would already have been on the New York Time’s best seller list. My Closet Organizing System is a mini version of her book in regard to what clothes to keep, and how to hang them plus I show how to store shoes, which she doesn’t.
Sadly Marie Kondo’s book has no photos, and it is hard to duplicate organizing systems without some visuals.

The best tip from her book and one I used immediately was her method of folding clothes that are stored in drawers. I was in such a hurry to use her file folding technique, that I forgot to take before pictures.

I used this system for my son’s T-Shirts and my drawer that has special scarves/wraps along with my nightgowns. I did not fold all very carefully, but these 2 drawers took me less than 10 minutes to refold. Now there is more room in each drawer and it is so much easier to see the contents. Imagine how great these items would look if I folded them carefully.

Using this file system, it is so easy to see what you have and add more space to your drawers. You can watch this video to learn how to fold t-shirts using the Kon Mari method.

AH-Headshot-150x150“I was amazed at how much value Scarlett provided me in our virtual consultation. Not only did she quickly grasp the clothes that looked like “me” from just a series of photographs, but she picked up on colors and combinations which were not in the photos but I personally liked and encouraged me to use them more because they enhanced my features. Scarlett also gave me the reinforcement to understand why some items looked better on me than others. Then to top it off she provided a comprehensive list of examples I could instantly add to my wardrobe. In 2 hours I went from uncertain to confident with a new batch of clothes that really work for me on the way.”  Allison Hartsoe Digital Analytics Expert

YES, please tell me what to wear

What are you waiting for? Why wouldn’t you want to know what to wear?

I have changed the lives of many women without ever having met them in person. You can read in their own words, below, how I transformed their lives and gave them confidence.

Scarlett“I absolutely LOVED my Skype consultation with Scarlett! My previous photoshoot was a disaster and I didn’t like my pictures. This time I was determined to give it my best. I hired Scarlett to help me choose the right clothes and accessories. I was tired of having closet full of stuff that looked great in the store, but not so much on me. Scarlett came to the call prepared. She reviewed the pictures I sent her and had incredibly helpful tips for me on how to dress, what colors and styles suit me well. She even created a WishList on an online store to show me what types of clothing might look good at me. Scarlett transformed my life. She not only helped me feel like a superstar during my photoshoot, but gave me confidence to walk away from clothes that don’t compliment me and focus on styles and colors that will make me look and feel great. Thank you Scarlett for turning my photoshoot into a success and teaching me how to be a confident shopper! I highly recommend Scarlett as a personal stylist for any professional woman who is looking to dress for success and look stunning at all times.”  Silvia Pencak

Scarlett“As someone who spends all of her time at medical meetings focusing on the presentations and not on what the presenters were wearing, I knew that I needed to update but felt at a loss for how to go about it. I want simplicity, sophistication and a style I feel comfortable with. Talking on the phone with Scarlett was wonderful. We “shopped” together virtually and could look at items together while physically across the country from each other. It was a wonderful, non-threatening and efficient way to re-create my style and not get frustrated. Prior to my actual consultation, I really enjoyed dissecting Scarlett’s blog and acting on many of her tips as well. I highly recommend Scarlett and look forward to working with her in the future!”  Dr. Carla S. Has Any of These Ever Been Your Why?

Makeovers for women

The top 3 reasons you may be sick and tired of trying to figure out what to wear:

Weight – You do not have to change before making a change.

Money – What has buying the wrong clothes and/or not feeling confident about yourself really cost you?

Fear – Of going out of your comfort zone and/or letting someone in to transform your image & confidence.

Below you can hear my solutions to the top 3 “I don’t know what to wear” reasons you may be struggling with, in a bonus call to Inner Circle members of Sandy Weiner’s Last First Date dating coaching service.

Loved how one participant changed what she was going to wear to a large event the next day while listening to my presentation. I typically change a woman’s struggles with her wardrobe and self image in less than 3 hours, but she did it in less than 30 minutes! You can actually hear in her voice how excited she when she chose to wear something totally different, than before she heard my tips. She made me very proud.

Makeovers for women“Scarlett has a true talent for pulling disparate items of clothing, shoes and accessories from your closet and turning them into amazing new outfits! She is so professional, warm and respectful. If you have fallen into the trap of wearing the same four outfits over and over again then it’s time to hire Scarlett. I feel as if I have a new business wardrobe, something I really needed!”  – Julie Jansen Professional Speaker, Coach and Author

Can You Be The Big Picture?

Style advice for women over 40Magnifying mirrors are as much a woman’s friend as her enemy. While you are exploring your face with the same focus as Christopher Columbus may have had when looking for new worlds, you are discovering blackheads, unwanted hairs, lines, spots, shadows. Often these objects are practically screaming at us, as we examine our faces in those magnifying wonders of amplified reflection.

However, nobody actually sees what you see in your close-up, especially if the other women who surround you are over 40. Unless they all have their reading glasses on and are examining your face like a CSI investigator, they don’t see what you see. Take comfort in knowing that there are ways to hide the evidence, and stop feeling like a walking and talking crime scene.

Instead of focusing excessively on the little things, do so with the ‘big picture’ which is basically your total image as reflected in a full-length mirror.

If needed, use a magnification mirror only for plucking, eyeliner, and mascara application but not for critiquing, picking and popping, Believe me, I know that is easier said than done, and I have the scars to prove it.

Use a full-length mirror to see how you really look, instead of that torturous mini funhouse magnifier. From your earrings down to your shoes, your entire outfit will supersede a wrinkle or sag.

Wear flattering clothes that diminish your flaws. There are many ways to look great without magnification and plastic surgery manipulation. I know this well, as my clients and I use them every day. Knowing what works best on you will distract your eyes from the small, and help you to love the big picture.

I Updated My Look From The Couch

In a few hours, you can transform how you look and feel as quickly and easily as I did.

A few weeks ago, I got home at midnight from a speaking engagement, and I was exhausted. Despite being tired the next morning, I got my son off to school and drove to attend a class at my gym. I hit unexpected traffic and realized I was going to be very late for the class, so I did what any self-respecting regular exerciser, would NOT do; I turned around and came home.

After doing some work on my computer, I went onto the couch around noon with a spoon and half a small container of my latest food crush, Talenti Sea Salt Caramel Gelato. I never eat out of a container, but I decided nothing would make me feel better than digging in and then taking a nap. FYI, I also never take naps.

When I woke up, I felt great and not at all guilty.  I indulged in gelato and slept in the middle of the day. Crazy or smart?

For me, it was smart as I gave myself what I needed and I enjoyed feeling connected to the cartoon character, Garfield.

End result: I felt like a new me with renewed energy and a non-stop smile that lasted for the rest of the day.

What about you? Go do something crazy too, and then notice how much better you will look and feel as a result of taking care of yourself.

Instead of this:

I needed a way to help my son learn how to fold clothes better, so they wouldn’t always be a wrinkled mess when he got dressed. Since folding was not easy for him, I went searching for a solution.

I remembered, years ago, seeing Gap employees use a tool to fold shirts for that perfect look. Actually, to this day I feel guilty unfolding clothes in stores so I can get a better look at the merchandise.

Anyway, I wanted one of those folding gadgets and I found it.How to fold clothes

Affordable and Really Comfy Shoes

Affordable and Really Comfy Shoes

Before I presented to the women’s networking group Believe, Inspire, Grow, aka B.I.G., fellow, member Evelyn  Cucchiara, founder of The Toy Tamer, told me about comfortable, cute and very affordable shoes made by Apropos Footwear.

Why wear sneakers, when you can wear these adorable and comfortable shoes?

You can see the great choices in the above photo, and for a slightly higher price, you can pick out your own fabric.

There even is a champagne and white damask version for Brides, so they can dance the night, instead of their feet, away. Genius!Affordable and Really Comfy Shoes

Now, here is something that almost knocked me off my chair. I went to the Apropos Footwear web site to do some research, and read the about page. The designer and founder of these shoes is…

drumroll please….Cathy DeBease!!!

Cathy is my husband’s cousin, and I totally forgot that she had created a shoe for the purpose of being comfortable and still attractive. Pretty cool, wouldn’t you say?

Linda Albright says:

“I want other women to experience Scarlett’s magic. She is AMAZING!! I can’t believe I waited this long to find someone like her. I don’t like shopping, and SHE DOES and she has the best eye. Before working with her, I was in old, tired, out of date wear. Now I look and feel terrific. Somehow she finds the PERFECT clothes at an INCREDIBLE price. I can’t wait to have her line up my fall fashions. Thanks Scarlett! Everyone’s raving about my look now!”

Don’t Let This One Slip You By

Sometimes it seems that clothes are getting sheerer and sheerer, while we are looking to show less and less.

what to wear under a see through dress

Occasionally a dress needs a slip, but they are no longer a standard item in lingerie stores. If you still have one from 20 years ago, you know it is a bit old-fashioned, and not very comfortable as it probably has little or no stretch.

I found the perfect solution hidden in the June 2015 issue of The Oprah magazine, the Bumbrella.

what to wear under a see through dress

This panty and slip combination is perfect under sheer dresses and skirts, as well as offering added protection for when you bend over.

Perhaps if Marilyn Monroe had worn one of these under that infamous white dress, her then-husband Joe DiMaggio, wouldn’t have gotten so mad. They divorced shortly thereafter.

Once I let her know what I was looking for, she took off, quickly sending me a long list of links to specific clothing that she knew I’d like, along with comments on sizing and her opinion. I wound up with all the pieces I needed, plus a few I didn’t even think about, but loved when I got them. Scarlett makes it easy, stress-free and super-convenient.
