More Ways To Cover Up Your Upper Arms

Check out these arm cover ups in the online newsletter, which I am a contributor to, The Three Tomatoes. They use fabulous Helen Mirren as a perfect example of how a woman maintains a high level of class and glamour, yet always has her upper arms covered.

I even made a video a couple of years ago on the subject of our, less than pageant ready, upper arms.

More Ways To Cover Up Your Upper Arms

It’s not you – it’s your clothes…because you never learned the specifics that will allow you to transform what you choose to wear and  buy.

Stress no more, because now you can get what to wear advice that you can easily follow, while laughing as you learn in my recently published book, Stop Stressing About Dressing. Get your copy here on Amazon.

I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read on how to look and feel great every day. I’m a protege of Scarlett’s and find her tips and explanations invaluable in this slim volume. “That’s why I should wear more ruffles!” is one small reminder of why particular textures, colors and necklines flatter some and not others. Scarlett is a genius in this arena and generously shares her fashion secrets with us mere mortals. I highly recommend Stop Stressing About Dressing to all women, particularly those of us over 50. Tired Of Sinking Into The Grass?

heels from sinking into the grassTired Of Sinking Into The Grass?

Outdoor weddings, graduations, polo parties, okay not really, and so many other festive occasions are being held outdoors this time of year. You may have the perfect outfit to wear, but what about that sinking feeling you have about your shoes? No really, you are worrying about sinking into the lawn.

Hey you are there to celebrate and have fun, not to aerate the lawn.

heels from sinking into the grass

So, if you don’t want to look like a tiny stuffed animal is clinging to your heels, check out these strips for your shoes from Grasswalker’s

“Our transparent strips adhere to the bottom of your favorite heels without causing any damage, creating a sturdy, yet practically invisible guard that will keep your heels from sinking into the grass. And unlike most heel protectors on the market today that simply fit around your heel, Grasswalkers are unique because they were specifically designed to create a flat surface to walk on, covering the entire bottom of your shoe that comes in contact with the ground. Grasswalkers provide extra protection and stability so you won’t sink into the grass.”

Grass walkers $8.99 per pair

Their video, below, shows you how they work.

I wrote about another product last year, to keep heels from sinking into the grass, that is much less obvious but won’t be as great of a conversation starter as the Grasswakers product.

Either way, nothing can ruin your outfit faster, than sinking into and perhaps onto the lawn.

Are You Doing The Hokey Pokey With Your Clothes?

Did you ever have to put your right arm in? Your arm right arm out? Did you have to shake it all about?

I’m talking about the Hokey Pokey dance you may have had to do when trying to get out of a dress or top.

Here is all you have to do to avoid having to wiggle your way out of a tight situation:

  1. Sit test. When I suspect a need, I always ask my clients to see if they can sit down comfortably in the clothes they are trying on. The right answer is, YES.
  2. Check if you will need another person to zip and button you up. Be sure to pre-recruit that help, or you will find yourself spending way too much time, doing the Hokey Pokey, and well then, that’s what it will be all about.

Personal Shopping

This is a photo of the dressing room I filled for my Personal Shopping client to shop from.

Every piece that she took home was comfortable and VERY flattering.

Other than one back button on a dress, she will not need anyone to help her get dressed or undressed.

She will look beautiful on the dance floor and will most certainly will not be doing the Hokey Pokey.

Another Image & Style Consultant Product You Should Own

 image & style consultant
As an image & style consultant, I often find unusual solutions to very common problems.

One problem I have never have to solve is keeping a toupee on a man’s head. However, if I did then I would recommend Top Stick Men’s Grooming tape, but yet I actually can recommend this product to YOU!

I recently discover this product, and it  costs less than a popular ‘Fashion Tape’ product out there, and can solve so many so called fashion emergencies.

  • Peeking out bra straps.
  • Hems that need emergency hemming.
  • Peek-a-boo necklines that need a bit less peeking.
  • Belt straps that flap around and you still haven’t added extra holes to get a better fit.

Place the tape between bra strap and top, and voila instant classy lady vs. throwback to the 80’s Madonna period.

Product info: Top Stick Men’s Grooming Tape 1 Pack of 50 Strips for under $8.

Keep a few in your bag and be the hero next time you witness a fashion disaster.

Reviews:

Just want to start by saying that “Stop Stressing About Dressing” is the perfect give for your mom, sister or best friend. I learned more from it than I have in a lifetime of trying to make decisions about how to clothe myself without any advice about size, color, design and even necklines. Scarlett DeBease is an expert in helping a woman to make use of what they already have in their closets with new clothing and accessories. I loved reading this hilarious book as she mixes humor with truth and makes learning more fun than it’s been in years. I sat in a doctor’s waiting room recently and read the book, screaming (softly) with laughter as I read a chapter called “The Bathing Suit Blues.” I will now know how to choose my next bathing suit with a lot more self assurance on how to look good at the beach in what most women believe to be an impossible effort.

Client Testimonials

Interested in working with me? Check out a few of my client testimonials below!

Scarlett is a brilliant Image Stylist

“Scarlett is a brilliant Image Stylist. She understands not only what looks good on her clients but how those clothes interact with daily life and can be an extension of brand. It was so incredible to arrive at my dressing room and find it fully loaded. I will never EVER look through racks of clothes again. What she saved me in knowing where to find the great sales (and when to pay full price) covered her fee alone. Even if that wasn’t the case she would be worth every penny. I highly recommend Scarlett!” PattyLennon.com

Does Your FitBit Need A Style Makeover?

Style Makeover

So many of my clients wear a FitBit, and often want to take it off when trying on clothes so as to not distract from the outfits I am creating for them, in their personalized style makeover.

I typically suggest keeping it on, so they won’t lose any of the ‘steps’ they take while doing the low impact aerobic activity of changing clothes.

Recently a new client told me the following after her personal consultation with me:

“Can you believe my Fitbit said I did 10,000 steps today, and I didn’t even leave the house!”
Now I can proudly say that not only do my clients love their new clothes and outfits, but also burn lots of extra calories when working with me. Sounds like a win win!
I admired her bracelet, only to be told that it was a FitBit cover she found online. You see, occasionally I get style tips from my clients, and then I love to share them with you.
Check out all these great styles from Bezel and Bytes.

Check out what my virtual styling client all the way from Arizona had to say about working with me:

“Before I worked with Scarlett I could not get out the door in the morning because I could never decide what to wear. Now I get out the door with ease! She showed me what works for my body type and now I just throw on clothes and go, because all the clothes in my closet are right for me! Seriously though, Scarlett, thank you so much. You have helped me more than you know!” Shannon Smith, Scottsdale Az.

3 Tips For Changing Out Clothes For Different Seasons

Don’t make the same mistake I did when packing for a week in Paradise, AKA, Turks and Caicos.

My biggest decision while away, was which top should I wear with my white jeans. Yet, I almost didn’t have the opportunity to make that choice.

3 tips for changing out clothes for different seasons

When I took my white pants off my closet shelf to pack, I saw that I had not washed them before putting them away in September. There were stains on the hems and some sort of schmutz on one of the legs. I failed to clean them after wearing them for the last time. Perhaps I was in denial that warm days were over for the year.

My bad.

My big mistake, and clearly my having been to lazy to take the time to review my clothes properly before putting them away.

Fortunately, I was able to get the stains out, and even better get my body back in those jeans. Double whew.

When the seasons and what we wear change, it is best to clean your clothes before storing them away. Here are 3 tips for changing out clothes for different seasons.

  1. Wash or dry clean the clothes you often wore.
  2. Make any repairs to your shoes and/or boots before storing them away.
  3. Review all the clothes you didn’t wear, and determine if they should even be in your closet and drawers.

Then when the next season starts, you will be ready to go.

Make Your Middle Disappear

Often a  woman, before working with me, was wearing Spanx tanks as a way to make her middle disappear.

The trouble is, that these super tight tanks also control aka flatten out their chest.

When the breasts are flattened, droopy, or simply nowhere to be seen, you lose the opportunity to accent/create a waistline.

Even if you want to reduce the size of your bustline, flattening them out is not the solution.

No matter what size you are, when your bustline is artificially flattened out, the body shape is more of a support column. Not the kind of support we should be aiming for.

This model is possibly a size 2 and about 16 years old, so not exactly truth in advertising, but here is the tank from the Spanx website I am referring to.

Make Your Middle Disappear

TIP: A Better Way To Make Your Middle Disappear, to hide the muffin top and the jiggles in the middle, is to wear a loose fitting tank over your bra and under your tops.

I found the one below hanging in the lingerie department of Kohls.

A Better Way To Make Your Middle DisappearA Better Way To Make Your Middle DisappearWhen the tank or camisole is simply draping your middle, your clothes will not cling to the parts you least want or should show.

Try it..you just might like it!

Often I am asked what type of women do you work with, so I thought why not tell you as below an excerpt from my website.

What type of woman should not use your services?

It is important for you to know that I only work with women who are ready to invest in themselves and their business as well as public image. They finally want to stop putting off taking care of themselves. I do not work with the woman who loves to shop and has to have the latest trends and status symbols labels. The women that I work with understand the impact of their personal image on their career and life, and are ready to take action to look their best.
