How To Make Your Rings and Earrings Fit…Just Right

How To Make Your Rings and Earrings Fit
How To Make Your Rings and Earrings Fit

Sometimes a product finds me, before I find it.

I recently attended a business woman’s event called Savor The Success, and in my really nice swag bag, was a product I needed, yet didn’t know it existed.

BlingGuard, offers one solution for heavy earrings, and another for rings that don’t sit right on your finger. Now, I know how to make your rings and earrings fit, and stay put.

Here are the videos that explain each product.

And for those rings that become too loose or are not quite the right size, the BlingWrap is a lifesaver!

I have a ring that had never sat well on my hand, and although I love it, I couldn’t wear it as it drove me nuts. I used the BlingWrap, and voila, it fit and didn’t turn around on my finger anymore.

The Fashion Industry Needs A Makeover

Fashion Industry Needs A Makeover
Fashion Industry Needs A Makeover

Why are so many, and I mean MANY, women struggling trying to find clothes that make them look great?

You know, what great looking is in terms of style and fashion, right? Being beautiful must mean looking like the models in magazines, TV and on the runway.

Right?

WRONG!!

I love what Tim Gunn, of Project Runway, is saying, and I encourage you to watch the video, and see that it is NOT YOU!

When referring to the models wearing clothes meant to entice us, Tim Gunn eloquently explains that “We’ve been conditioned to think that’s what looks good”.

Look, I’ve been talking about this for years and even wrote my book, Stop Stressing About Dressing,  to help women of all sizes, shapes and ages stop getting frustrated and stressed out, so they become, empowered vs overwhelmed.

Tim Gunn on why the fashion industry
needs a makeover.

Fashion Industry Needs A Makeover
Who really looks like this?

Tim Gunn explains that silhouette, fit and proportion are the keys to making  keys a design more flattering, and he’s right…in terms of general advice.

But, when I advice a woman, I show her how certain details that she may never have noticed, can add pounds, reduce or enlarge features, plus give the illusion of being taller.

There are clothes out there for larger sized women vs  the ultra thin models and oh, let’s not leave out the ‘real housewives’ on TV. Heaven help us.

I find well fitting and flattering clothes all the time for my clients.
That’s My Job. It’s what I love to do.

For the women who choose to not get professional styling advice, I love Tim Gunn’s call to action:

As Tim Gunn famously says, and is now exclaiming:

“Designers, make it work!”

So stop thinking something is wrong with you, or that losing weight will solve all your what to wear woes and wishes.

Come on now, even a women who is a size 8 can’t or shouldn’t, look like those models.

You and I, WE ARE NORMAL! We just need the fashion industry to accept and acknowledge  us.

THANK YOU TIM GUNN.

Fashion Industry Needs A Makeover“I had a great time and was very impressed w/all the outfits you created. I’m so excited to see all the color you added to my existing wardrobe and love all the combinations you came up with. I can’t tell you how much you changed my outlook on clothing. I’m actually looking forward to wearing all the nice things you picked out and am no longer dreading going into my closet! You have no idea the stress I used to feel when it came to deciding what I was going to wear…Thanks so much for everything, Scarlett.” Adrienne Daniels

Will You Take The Wear What You Have Challenge?

Wear What You Have Challenge

Sometimes you might say you have nothing to wear even though you have a closet full of clothes.

Hmm…What gives?

So, how about a challenge?

How about 30 days of not wearing the same outfit by only by using what you already have in your closet and drawers? Just think of all those clothes that are unworn in your closet.

This is a great way to weed out the hidden winners and losers taking up precious space behind those closet doors.

Okay, okay 30 days is making you a bit antsy?

So, how about just 7 days?

For just 7 days, create a new outfit use the clothes that are feeling forgotten and neglected from within your closet and drawers. You’ll be surprised what goodies you’ll find.

This means you have to STOP wearing the same top and pants over and over again. You know you have quite a few other choices…so put em on and take the Wear What You Have Challenge.

If you have a hard time figuring out which of your clothes you should be wearing or how to get your closet less overwhelming, then you’re going to love my FREE 5 day Spring Cleaning plan to End Your Closet Shame.

Bargain Shopper Warning

Bargain Shopper Warning

Bargain shopping here I come.

While in California for work and pleasure, I decided to have some fun by checking out Saks Off 5th.
This is where a shopper can find merchandise that did not sell at the regular Saks Fifth Avenue stores, and brought over for her to get to deeply discounted prices.

Or, can she???

I frankly am outraged at the nerve of this retailer fooling their customers into thinking they are getting a deal.
This off-price retailor is carrying brands including Nine West, Jones NY, Ivanka Trump, and Rafaella that have never seen the light of day in a Saks 5th Avenue store.

Give me a break.

As an image consultant and personal shopper, I really and I mean really know labels, prices and deals.

I love a good sale and know when I see one.

I don’t like being manipulated, and don’t want you to get tricked into buying something that is not a deal.

For more tips on outlet shopping, I wrote about where the better deals are a while back in this blog post.

“Scarlett is a brilliant Image Stylist. She understands not only what looks good on her clients but how those clothes interact with daily life and can be an extension of brand. It was so incredible to arrive at my dressing room and find it fully loaded. I will never EVER look through racks of clothes again. What she saved me in knowing where to find the great sales (and when to pay full price) covered her fee alone. Even if that wasn’t the case she would be worth every penny. I highly recommend Scarlett!”  Patty Lennon

Stop Ignoring Regular Sized Women

What About The Women Who Are Not Shaped Like Models?

Hey out there, Stop Ignoring Regular Sized Women.

Come on ladies, let’s shout out:

We’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it anymore!

Recently I was tagged on FaceBook by a friend who was outraged about the size of models, and she wanted my feedback, so…take a look at what she wrote:

“SO….I opened up Self Magazine today with the new “plus size” model Ashley Graham on the centerfold pages…looks good, I turned the page and I saw the skinniest woman I have seen since Kate Moss..looks good…But where the hell are the NORMAL-sized women? Women I see every day on the street and in the mirror. It’s either go for feast or famine with our country. Where’s the happy medium, the you and me?!!!!!

Ashley Graham is a size 16 and most typical models are a 2 to 4. So, as my friend pointed out, where are the rest of us being represented?

And may I add that in my opinion a size 16 is NOT plus-sized. Especially not so, when the model is tall.

My question, is why? Where are those women? There are a lot of us, sized between 4 and 16 as well as over 16, and we are NOT being represented!

My goal is, and has been to change this.

  • I wrote my book for the woman not being represented on TV and in magazines.
  • I speak to women’s groups, sharing tips on how to not feel and look forgotten, but rather confident and fabulous.
  • I blog, to keep the conversation going & inspire women of ALL sizes, not to give up on themselves and hide in ill-fitting and non-flattering clothes.

Stop Ignoring Regular Sized Women

“I recently had the pleasure working with Scarlett De Bease. Let me retract that, I had a lot of fun spending time with Scarlett recently, as we created comfortable outfits for an upcoming business trip. Her keen eye and direct approach on what looked ideal on me, made me feel ultra confident. if you need help with the items in your closet, then invite Scarlett over, you’ll be glad you did!!” Barbara Grapstein

How To Choose The Right Necklace

Most women will wear a strand of traditional pearls with a classic dress, and that’s okay.

But why be just okay?

I selected this dress for a high level executive client, but chose this beautiful costume and interesting pearl necklace instead of your mother’s pearls.

Here’s the trick:

See how the shape of the necklace mimics the neckline?

If you pair a round necklace with a v-neck, you will lose the opportunity to make an outfit special, instead of ordinary and predictable.

I don’t want you to be ordinary.

You shouldn’t want that either.

P.S. This dress is not so great looking when on a hanger, but when on a real body…WOW!

It really pays to try things on.

How To Wear The Same Dress In Every Season

How To Wear The Same Dress
How To Wear The Same Dress Or Top Every Season

I remember the time when  I had two distinctly different wardrobes; warm and cold weather with pretty much nothing in between.

You know the drill, one closet for one season, and the other clothes are kept in an attic, basement, spare room, or worse, in boxes.

Those days are long gone for me and I encourage you to try on my philosophy as the weather changes from warm to cool.

So many sleeveless tops and dresses can be ‘warmed’ up for when the temperature dips by simply adding a jacket or stylish cardigan, along with ankle or knee-hi boots, and you’re set.

Some dresses have room for a blouse underneath it, but caution is required as if this is not done correctly, the final outcome may not look that great.

By adding a few layers, you can get many months out of a dress or top along with a lot more bangs for your bucks.

The photo above shows one option of not wearing stockings, but another choice is wearing a textured or opaque hose.

BRRR. When it is brrr cold, go ahead and wear wooly clothes, turtlenecks, snow boots, parkas, and whatever else you need to survive the elements, but for 45 degrees or higher, consider layering your clothes.

Although I love wearing sandals in the warm weather, there is something that always gets me excited to create outfits: Layers.

So go on into your closet and see what you can do with your layering pieces, and you may just discover how to wear the same dress or top in every season.
