Personal Shopper Wins The Gold In Shopping Olympics!

personal shopper

After a particularly great shopping day, my client awarded me the gold medal for being the best personal shopper she has ever worked with.

I really like this client’s taste, but all kidding aside, I truly aim to get the best deals and items I can find for my clients. I love sales and hate spending more than necessary, and I urge you to feel the same way.

SALE WARNING: Just because the sign says sale, does not mean you are really getting a deal. Some stores inflate their prices so that when you see that the item is on ‘sale’, you think you are getting a deal. Well, you are not! You are simply paying the price the store planned on getting all along.

P.S. I  wrote this post while London, England at the time of The Olympics, and having spent the better part of the day in the world famous Harrods. This store gave me, a personal shopper, lots of inspiration, but honestly, there is almost nothing here that cannot be found back in the states. As a matter of fact, I would even be able to find the merchandise for less, as I take getting the best price quite seriously, as it is after all my sport of choice!

I am now offering virtual consultations for those that are too far away or are not yet ready to work one to one with me. This is only available to those who are ready to Stop Stressing About Dressing.

Beauty Survival Guide for When You lose Power

We lose power a lot. I mean a lot!

And although not an immediate priority when you don’t have electricity, heat or perhaps even water, a woman eventually has to get ready for the outside world by being able to apply and remove her makeup in the dark.

After all when we need to escape to a place that has internet, heat, and warm food it makes us feel a whole lot better to not look we are a contestant on the show Survivor.

Here’s what you should have according to my beauty survival guide for the next time, and there will be a next time, the power goes out.

1. A travel size battery operated magnifying light up mirror. This is great for applying makeup and contact lenses.

2. A facial cleanser that does not require water. I am a big fan of Cetaphil, available at drugstores, as it is a gentle cleanser and really great for your skin.

3. A non-alcoholic toner to use to clean your face and remove excess makeup.

4. Lots of Purell type non-water instant hand sanitizer cleanser, but do not use it on your face, as it is too harsh for facial skin.

Finally, patience, a sense of humor, chocolate, wine, and a really good friend or relative who has a generator will help you get thru another frustrating dark and inconvenient experience.

“Thank you, Scarlett, for a wonderful morning. It was like a birthday party for me, truly acheiving more than I expected. It was a fantastic experience, and if you knew me better, you would know what a supurlative complement that is, because I rarely rate any experience that high.” —I.B., Somers N.Y.

How To Pack A Suitcase for A Week in a Carry-On: Part 1

How To Pack A Suitcase for A Week In a Carry-On

How To Pack A Suitcase for A Week In a Carry-On.

how to pack a suitcase for a week

Ever notice how when you pack a regular suitcase you typically end up wearing a fraction of what you packed, or least realized you could have taken fewer clothes?

I used to do that myself, but for the last two years I have been fortunate enough to travel to Europe for a week, and I challenged myself to only take a carry-on suitcase.

One year it was a trip to Dublin, Ireland and this year to London, England. Both destinations required layers as their weather changes drastically within a few hours, and you never know if it will rain. I was determined to not check a bag, and deal with fees, lines, potential lost luggage, and definitely lost time at the baggage claim area.

So here is part 1 of how to pack a suitcase for a week:

Get a good and sturdy carry-on suitcase with 360º wheels so it can easily be maneuvered thru the airport.

Next, I planned what to bring with 3 things in mind: Can I wear each piece at least 2 different ways, is it lightweight and can I wash it by hand in my hotel room.

Below is everything I chose to bring and actually wore during my fabulous week in London.

It’s only for you if you finally want to know what to wear.

How to Shop In Your Closet – Step #1

Have you heard the phrase shop in your closet, but not sure how to get started?
How To Shop In our Closet
Today I’ll give you the first of 4 steps on how you can edit your wardrobe so that when you go thru your closet you can find the pieces that will be the foundation for you to build various outfits for different occasions.

How To Shop In Your Closet
STEP #1   Take out and donate all your tops that are too short. Up until just about 2 years ago, manufacturers made all tops on the short side. Remember the showing the tummy fashion phase? These short tops are not usually flattering or comfortable. They are, however, taking up precious space in your closet. Only keep the pullovers or button down tops that go past your waist. Chances are those are the only ones you will really wear and feel good in. So go ahead and get those shorties out of there!!!

I’m Going Into Politics and Please Vote!

women in politics

Congratulations to women in politics!

I love politics and how women are getting more and more involved by running for office at every level all over the world, so I am throwing my styling hat into the ring, well sort of.

It was an honor and privilege to be asked by the Women’s Campaign School At Yale University to teach a course, Dress To Win, for women running for office as well as those already elected.

There is so much more to dressing for political success than just wearing a flag pin…..or is there?

Please take a look at my video, and share in the comments below what you feel a woman in politics should wear and do to improve her image in politics.

Thank you so much for speaking at our  Women Bankers Conference. You did a fabulous job! It was so cool to see how our conference participants had made themselves over the next day. The ladies really listened to your tips regarding the importance of how the correct colors, styles, fit and accessories will make them feel and look younger. I think they all appreciated your advice that they don’t have to go out and buy a new wardrobe – their “new looks” are already in their closet.
I wanted to share one of the comments – “She was great and I enjoyed the personal consultation. Very great tips and good advice on how to use existing wardrobe and get rid of what doesn’t fit.”—Cheri Messerli

Are You A Flip Flopper?

Flip Flops

Click on the Scarlett Says video below to hear the flip flop sounds of fashion.

Shhhhhhh. Can you hear them? Can you catch the sound of flips flops at work, meetings, and other professional events?

Nothing says or sounds, as unprofessional as the flip flopping of flip flops in the room.

I have been asked my numerous Human Resource executives to speak about how inappropriate wearing flips flops, which were once only worn to the beach, are at the work place.

They also do not belong at networking events, interviews, meeting prospective clients, and everywhere else except Joe’s Clam Shack on the beach.

On a yucky note, feet get very dirty in flips flops when worn anywhere besides the beach or pool, and nobody wants to see that in professional settings.

Have you seen my new services? Take a look here and see how you can get my styling advice so that you will stop struggling with trying to figure out what to wear.

Scarlett’s warmth and kindness immediately put me at ease as soon as she stepped in the door. She came to help me put together an outfit for the most important moment of my career, giving my first TEDx talk! I was working through my stage fright, and I knew that if I looked great on stage, I would feel much more confident on the big day.

Scarlett helped me choose the right colors for my skin and hair, and ended up not only choosing a fabulous outfit for the TEDx talk, she also put together many more outfits for my professional life. I would never have thought of combining that blouse with that jacket and skirt. It was like getting five new outfits without spending a penny on clothes.

I love Scarlett so much, I have hosted her on a webinar and my radio show, so she can reach my clients who are dating again after divorce or loss. Helping women feel better about the bodies they have and knowing what to wear? Priceless!

Styling Tips To Get Your Inner Goddess Back

Styling Tips To Get Your Inner Goddess Back

Want to know how to look attractive, sexy, professional, stylish, and successful?
If you feel like you have lost the look and feel of the woman you remember but no longer see in the mirror, please read about a few of the tips I use when working with my clients.

As a certified professional image consultant and wardrobe stylist, I always try to help my female clients gain and/or reclaim their inner Goddess when choosing what to wear and how to look attractive again to themselves! For starters, when I take them shopping I have them try on pieces and sizes that they would never have selected on their own.

Here are a few other tips and tricks I provide my clients:

* GET A BRA FITTING AND NEW BRAS. By lifting up their breasts, their waist is revealed and they feel perky and sexy once again. I had one over-50-year-old client scream out loud with joy from the lingerie dressing room when she saw her breasts lifted up like they were when she was younger. She truly did not believe she could look like that again and she now feels sexier and confident in her ability to still look good!

* BUY CLOTHES THAT FIT YOUR BODY, and not just the size number you think you are or want to be. In other words, go for fit and let your curves (or the illusion of them) show. By going for what fits the largest parts of a woman’s body, and taking in any gaps (usually at the waistline), my clients discover the beauty of their bodies and actually stand taller and smile more brightly. Women tend to get so hung up on only trying on one size, that they lose the ability to look great and sexy by wearing flattering fitting clothes.

* NO MORE COVERING UP IN OVERSIZED CLOTHES. So many women believe that by wearing boxy oversized clothes they think they look thinner, when in actuality they look bigger, disappear, and look anything but sensual. I have my clients wear clothes that show their bodies and they discover feeling like women again and not like a clothesline!

* WEAR A BELT. Adding a belt, especially for the larger size woman, gives them a major boost in their feeling sexy as they now have waist definition. This always makes them feel sexy as they now have an hourglass, va, va, va, vom, shape!

“Today was so much fun! Thanks for your help! My closet looks much better and I feel much better knowing I can wear the things in my closet. I also learned a few things along the way! Who knew I was a gold? Now I can’t wait to go shopping! This was a great birthday treat for myself.” —J.F.

Move Over Richard Gere: How You Could Have Your Own Pretty Woman Experience.

Personal ShoppingDidn’t you love the scene in Pretty Woman, when the character played by Julia Roberts was surrounded by personal shopping saleswomen happily finding her the perfect clothes & accessories? Thank you to Richard Gere, for making so many women want you in their lives, and wish that you………sorry, I’m digressing.

Oh, the magic of movies….wait a minute.

Personal shopping is not a fantasy or solely for the wealthy. It’s for women who hate the clothes they own, how they look in them, and despise shopping!

Many department stores offer you their personal shopping services at no cost but keep in mind their goal is to sell and not to find you the clothes that will allow you to open your closet and easily find what to wear.

As a matter of fact, a new client of mine spent $$$ at a store with their personal shopper, and was so upset when she realized she still had nothing to wear!! That’s when she called me.

I offer personal shopping to my clients, and my goal was to find the pieces that will allow her to easily and quickly pick out what to wear. First I went to her home, reviewed her clothes, created new outfits, explained why some clothes were not working on her, and created a list of what she needs for when I shop for her, to complete the blanks she needs in her existing wardrobe.

Take a look at this short video I took of what your Pretty Woman personal shopping dressing room can look like for you.
