What Does Your Business Image Say?

The importance of your personal and business image for your career.

What are you saying when you walk into a room? Are you giving the impression that you would prefer not to be there, or that you have much to offer to potential clients and contacts?

The message you send starts not with what you say, but how you carry and portray yourself.

You need to feel good about how you look and what you are wearing so that you project the confidence that you need in order to have a successful business and career.

Believe in yourself, don’t put yourself down, and take a step or two to make yourself feel and look as wonderful as you truly are.

And then she said:

“Scarlett makes it incredibly simple to view your closet as your friend, (not your enemy) when designing the business image you want to project to your market. She educates and inspires you to create the image you want to project in the context of what you truly want to attract. And for so many business owners, that can be a critical distinction in the kind of clients you get to serve. She’s a 6-figure business owner’s partner in success!”

Time To Say Thank You and Farewell

nothing to wear

Thank you to all my clients, readers, fans, FaceBook likers, Linked-In connections, Pinterest pinners, Instagram likers, Twitter re-tweeters and followers.

I thank the women who hated shopping for clothes, yet trusted me to show them how beautiful they can look in the clothes I found for them when we shopped together.

I thank the women who felt frumpy and out of date and almost gave up on themselves, only to see their eyes light up when they saw that they still ‘have it’ & now know how to flaunt it.

I thank the women who thought they had nothing to wear and allowed me to create multiple new outfits using what they already owned.

I thank the women who purchased my closet organizing guide, and thanked me for the tips and can now more easily find their clothes.

I thank the men who gifted my services to their wives, because they loved them and wanted their spouses to love themselves as much as they did.

2013 has been a wonderful year for me in many ways and you all helped make that happen. I thank those that allowed me to make their year special as well.

I am bidding farewell to 2013, and will be back writing my posts in January of 2014.

Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
Seasons Greetings
and a very Happy New Year to all.

Note: My rates for my personal one-to-one services will be increasing in 2014.
All gift certificates purchased before 1/14 will be honored at the 2013 rates.

To Pleat Or Not To Pleat

not to pleat

To pleat or not to pleat, that is the question……

The first time I work with a client, she occasionally has a few pairs of pleated pants from a past decade or two in her closet.

Sometimes they still fit, and other times they are in a size that she hopes to fit back into again. Oh, how we can all relate to that scenario.

There are two problems with wearing the pleated pant styles of previous decades:

One:  Pleated pants visually add inches to your waist and hips. May I please see a show of hands as to how many wish to make their middle look larger?

Two:  Wearing the pleated pants from a few decades back, makes you look like you are wearing clothes from a few decades back. In other words, outdated and older than you wish to portray yourself.

not to pleat

Designers are trying to bring pleated pants back, thereby encouraging women to ponder: to pleat or not to pleat.

Take a look at the pleated pants above, currently for sale at a major department store. These are being worn by a very tall, high heeled model, who is extremely thin and most probably very hungry. She is not shaped like most of us average, real, and fabulous over 40 women.  This model can easily afford to add a few inches to her stomach, hips, and thighs with pleats, but I cannot. Can you?

If you find yourself pondering to pleat or not to pleat, review the above.

5 Ways To Shop Sales and Save Money

5 Ways To Shop SalesBeware of fake sales!!!

SALE

50% OFF

EVERYTHING MUST GO

ONE DAY SALE

CLEARANCE

UP TO 70% OFF

There are real sales, great sales, and fake sales. I love great sales and, as all my clients know, there isn’t a sales rack out there that I haven’t scoured to find a great deal.

Avoid falling for the sneaky trap that some retailers offer. See photo above.

Usually, a sign on top of the rack showing the original price and then what their ‘special’ sale prices are for that day is merchandise that was bought and priced to be sold at the lower price, so you are not getting a deal at all. Trust me on this.

So what are the best ways to shop sales? Here are 5 Ways To Shop Sales and Save Money:

1. Browse the stores you like before they have a sale, so you know what you like and the original price the items sold at before they get marked down.

2. Don’t get overwhelmed by the multiple racks of deals. Focus on what styles, labels, and colors look best on you. Do Not focus on the price! A bargain is no bargain when it is not right for you, no matter how inexpensive it may now be.

3. Keep your receipts, and if the items you purchased get marked down within two weeks, most stores will credit you the difference.

4. Ask stores like Bloomingdales, Macy’s, and Nordstrom if they have any coupons for you to use towards your purchases. Often, the salespeople are very generous with what they have hidden in their drawers.

5. The days after Christmas, and sometimes before, are a bargain hunter’s delight. That sweater that was not right for one woman, is perfect for you and truly now is 30 to 50% off
Always get a price check on an item at this time of year, as often the salespeople are too busy to place the reduced price on the ticket, and you might miss
out on a deal if you don’t ask for them to scan the tag. Take advantage of the After Christmas Sales!!

Styling Tip To Look Thinner in Your Pants

Styling Tip To Look Thinner In Pants

Styling Tip To Look Thinner in Your Pants
Want to look thinner in your pants? You can, when you simply take out your pockets. What?????
Ever notice how sometimes those front pant pockets, that you never use, tend to bunch up or pop out? Notice how puckering pockets do not make you look thinner in your pants? If that happens, those unnecessary gapping pockets visually add width to our middle sections, and who wants that?
A simple solution is to cut out the pockets and if needed, have a tailor stitch them closed to keep them from sneaking open.
It is especially beneficial to cut those pocket linings out in white pants. They always show thru the pant, which simply doesn’t look right, and by removing the lining the problem is solved.

Tips To Choose The Right Shape Eyeglasses For Your Face

Remove term: tips to choose the right shape eyeglasses for your face tips to choose the right shape eyeglasses for your face

Here I am trying on glasses in Starbucks. I think I need to keep trying.

So how cool would it be if you could see what you look like in a new pair of glasses without leaving your home?

Well, now you can, via an app for your IPad.

Got to Glasses.Com, download the app and follow the simple instructions for you to check out how you would look in a variety of eyeglass frames. Try on different shapes and colors, so you don’t end up buying the same type of frames you have been year after year. You might discover that the frames in red are more flattering on you than the metal frameless pair you have been wearing for years.

Think of your frames as another accessory and have fun choosing a pair or two that are totally different than what you have worn before.

Here is a short video I made a few months ago, giving you some tips on how to select the most flattering pair of eyeglasses for you. Now at Glasses.Com, you can experiment and put my tips into action from the comfort of your home or at a Starbucks, while you have a cup of coffee.

How To Shop In your Closet – Step 2

If you followed Step 1 in my how to shop in your closet system of editing your clothes, you have already removed the tops that were to short. Are Your Pants Too Short?

Step #2: Review all your pants and skirts to see if any are too short for you now.

The best skirt length for most women would be the middle or right below the knee. Anything long or too short, will most probably look dated and not be flattering. The skirts that fall into that category probably have not even been worn in years anyway, right?

The best pant length, for men and women would be long enough to not show your socks when standing. Too short pants make your legs look awkwardly short, visually widen your body, and well here is that word again, looks dated.

So how simple is this? Take out the tops, skirts and pants that are too short, and you will already see a huge difference in being able to find what you are looking for, and be able to create more outfits that you will be happy with.

“I wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you spent helping me get my closet in order. For the past few years I have felt ‘out of style’ and with my career attire drifting from business to business casual and sometimes even casual, many of my spur of the moment clothing buys never seemed to mesh with the other clothes already in my closet. I was feeling desperate for a new look and under your direction was amazed by the transformation. Turns out the right jacket cut and blouse color can turn drab into wow. Without a doubt your great wardrobe stylist suggestions, eye for color and clothing expertise helped guide me to a new look I love. Whether I leave home for business, pleasure or errands I feel great knowing I’m looking my best!”

How To Pack A Carry-On for A Trip- Part 3

Wardrobe Stylist Shows: How To Pack A Suitcase for A Week in a Carry-On: Part 3

So now you know I bought a Brookstone carry-on suitcase, and what clothes and accessories I brought with me on my week-long trip to London, England. Keep in mind, that you can take my packing guidelines for a trip to anywhere, either for business, personal or a little bit of both.

Here three outfits I created with just a few of the pieces that I brought with me on this trip.

How To Pack A Carry-On for A Trip

How To Pack A Carry-On for A Trip

How To Pack A Carry-On for A Trip

1 Sleeveless blue and white top
1 blue jacket
1 pair of white jeans
1 pair of blue jeans
1 tan pencil skirt
1 pair orange/red sandals
1 pair beige snakeskin print sandals

Total: Over 6 outfits, by switching shoes, jacket, scarf, and jewelry as well the bottoms. Add my long sleeved blue top, not pictured, and you have at least 6 more combination outfits.

Change the tops, and you have at least 12 more outfits again. As long as you bottoms match each top, you will have the ability to create multiple outfits.

I also brought with me a brown/turquoise print sleeveless dress and a brown flowing jacket. Both were in a jersey fabric that did not wrinkle and would dry quickly if washed in a hotel sink.
The brown jacket also went with my skirt, white and dark wash jeans.

Here’s my method of folding clothes that will give you more room when packing.

Get paid to shop when you sign up at Ebates. Shop on-line thru Ebates, and get a percentage back from each purchase. With the holidays fast approaching, this is a great resource for you to sign up for. For an example, you can buy the carry-on suitcase I bought at Brookstone, and receive 5% back on your purchase.

Office Wear Dont’s For Women

Office Wear Dont’s For Women.

 Office Wear Dont's For Women

1. The most annoying sound in an office is the flip, flopping of flip flops!!! When did it become okay to wear beach attire to the office? What happened? An appropriate option is sandals that strap your feet in for what can become a bumpy ride out of a job if you don’t dress in proper work attire!

2. Bras are labeled to be in the UNDER garment category because they are to be under your clothes and out of sight. Nothing says unprofessional more than bra straps peeking out from your clothes either by accident or on purpose.

 Office Wear Dont's For Women

3. Clothes that are too tight. We all gain weight, and we need to embrace this cold hard fact by wearing clothes in your actual size, and not our fantasy size. In other words, let’s get a grip on the sad truth and stop letting our clothes have a grip on you!

CONFESSION: I write this as I sit here upset that I have gained weight and many of my clothes are too tight now, so I won’t be wearing them for a while.
I’m taking my own advice!

“Scarlett helped me transform my closet into a well organized resource of casual and business outfits that easily & successfully meet my everyday needs.”
