Buckle Up: It’s Time to Edit Your Belt Collection
Make January your closet clean-up month.
January is cold, dark, and dull following all the holiday cheer of December.
I like to use the month to organize my closet and home, so when spring arrives I’m already done with the annual cleanup.
Belts are one of those closet items that quietly pile up—too tight, too loose, out of style, useless, or simply forgotten.
Yes the right belt instantly polishes an outfit, but if your belt collection is a neglected mess, it’s time for a quick, intentional edit.
The photos above show I had more than needed, and a few of the ones I got rid of which are lying on the floor.
😱😱😱😱😱There were quite a few that shrunk!!!😱😱😱😱😱
Start by removing every belt and trying on only the ones that currently fit your body today. If it doesn’t buckle comfortably on your most-worn pair of jeans or pants, it’s not a keeper.
Next, take an honest look at condition and style. Cracked, stretched holes, or overly distressed finishes should not be worn anymore.
It’s ok to say goodbye.
Finally, organize what remains so you can actually see and use them.
Hang belts on slim hooks, a scarf ring, or a dedicated belt hanger in your closet.
Keep only the ones you reach for most—black, brown, camel, navy and one or two statement belts that truly elevate your outfits.
I suggest organizing by color, because that makes finding the one you need so much easier.
An organized belt collection makes getting dressed easier, and your closet look much neater.
More closet organizing tips will be coming your way this month.
And then she said…..
“I was at a point where so much in my life felt aligned—except my wardrobe. I was stuck in a rut, staring at clothes I didn’t love and unsure what actually worked for me at this stage of life. I didn’t want to look younger; I wanted to look vibrant, comfortable, and like the best version of myself. That’s where Scarlett came in. She helped me clear out what wasn’t working, truly listened to my preferences, lifestyle, and budget, and guided me—step by step—on what to wear, what to buy, and why it worked. From colors and fit to styling and shopping (which she made incredibly easy), Scarlett helped me build a wardrobe I genuinely love. The result? Outfits I never would have chosen on my own, a confidence boost I didn’t expect, and a closet that finally feels like me. I loved the experience so much that I immediately booked another session to build my next season’s wardrobe.” Kim Furphy
