Here’s A Quick & Easy Closet Makeover Tip

I’m embarrassed to say that my closet was ugly
&
needed a closet makeover.

Change is good and easy.

No More Wire & Plastic Hangers!

You would be amazed at how a $20 dress can look as good as a $200 dress when hung on a simple attractive hanger. Just as surprising, is how bad a $200 dress can look on a wire or plastic store hanger.

Closet Makeover – Before

This used to be how I hung my clothes. Yes, the hangers are all the same, but they are ugly. Plastic white hangers tend to turn yellow and stand out in an unattractive manner.

Hang all your clothes on the same type and color hanger, and you’ll find yourself smiling each time you open your closet doors.

Imagine how only one simple change such as switching out your hangers will make, and how much more can be done with your “I can’t find anything to wear” closet.

I used these hangers from Amazon.

Well, you don’t have to imagine, because when you join my FREE 5-day Clean Your Closet Plan to End Your Closet Shame.

Organizing Systems For Your Whole Family

I confess: I am an organizing junkie.
So much so that I am often referred to as a
closet organizer, which I am NOT.

My client’s closets are always more organized after working with me, because the contents are only the clothes that look good on them, plus I arrange her clothes using my organizing systems.
After hearing lots of buzz about the Japanese professional organizer Marie Kondo, I wanted, well I had to read her book,  The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.

Turns out her decluttering or in her words tidying, suggestions for clothes are what I have been using with my clients for almost 10 years. If only I had written them down in a book form, I would already have been on the New York Time’s best seller list. My Closet Organizing System is a mini version of her book in regard to what clothes to keep, and how to hang them plus I show how to store shoes, which she doesn’t.
Sadly Marie Kondo’s book has no photos, and it is hard to duplicate organizing systems without some visuals.

You can get my system in my online course Dress Without Stress.

The best tip from her book and one I used immediately was her method of folding clothes that are stored in drawers. I was in such a hurry to use her file folding technique, that I forgot to take before pictures.

I used this system for my son’s T-Shirts and my drawer that has special scarves/wraps along with my nightgowns. I did not fold all very carefully, but these 2 drawers took me less than 10 minutes to refold. Now there is more room in each drawer and it is so much easier to see the contents. Imagine how great these items would look if I folded them carefully.

Using this file system, it is so easy to see what you have and add more space to your drawers. You can watch this video to learn how to fold t-shirts using the Kon Mari method.

AH-Headshot-150x150“I was amazed at how much value Scarlett provided me in our virtual consultation. Not only did she quickly grasp the clothes that looked like “me” from just a series of photographs, but she picked up on colors and combinations which were not in the photos but I personally liked and encouraged me to use them more because they enhanced my features. Scarlett also gave me the reinforcement to understand why some items looked better on me than others. Then to top it off she provided a comprehensive list of examples I could instantly add to my wardrobe. In 2 hours I went from uncertain to confident with a new batch of clothes that really work for me on the way.”  Allison Hartsoe Digital Analytics Expert

5 Tips To Know What Clothes To Wear

5 Tips To Know What Clothes To Wear & Keep In Your Closet

Pick about 10 items from your closet and ask yourself the following questions:

* How do you feel when you wear it? Attractive or insecure?
* Does it accentuate or diminish a part of your body you wish was smaller?
* Is it in poor condition? Stains, holes, or missing buttons?
* Do you feel frumpy or fabulous when you wear it?
* Can you eat anything while wearing it? Know that feeling?

If the clothes don’t flatter you or should not be worn, then why hold on to them?

Just take 30 minutes to analyze those questionable pieces, and you’ll be closer to having a closet that will offer you many choices and not chaos.

How Can You Be Mad At This Face? Why I shop at Nordstrom.

Nordstrom

I am often asked which store do I take my clients shopping, and the answer is always Nordstrom.

The main two reasons I prefer Nordstroms is because they have a variety of price points and exceptional customer service. And I do mean exceptional customer service.

I have many examples of Nordstrom’s excellent customer service, but none as adorable and painful as what this gorgeous and sweet-faced puppy did to this expensive and once equally gorgeous shoe.

Nordstrom
A new ‘shoe’ toy for this gorgeous puppy.

When I found these versatile, attractive and comfortable shoes for my client, after having helped her find many new pieces of clothing, she fell in love with them despite their high price tag.

While she wore all her new clothes immediately she hesitated to wear the new shoes as they were more than she typically would spend on shoes. She kept thinking she would return them, but never brought herself to do so because she loved them so much. So they remained on the floor of her closet, helpless and neglected. That is until…….

Mr. Puppy thought he had a new ‘shoe’ toy, and my client saw $$ disappear before her eyes and sent me the above picture. Once I stopped saying NOOOOO, I suggested she take the half-eaten pair of shoes back to Nordstrom to ask for their help. I think she thought I was nuts, but I guess I earned her trust, and then…

Nordstrom’s famous customer service came thru. They replaced the chewed up shoe, and my client now was back to owning a beautiful pair of shoes, that she happily wears, over and over again.

She even bought another pair!

The moral of the story is to use and enjoy what you have while you can. Don’t deny yourself the pleasure of using what you have while you are well and young enough to do so.

Quoting the beloved Erma Bombeck from her book, IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER, “I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage”.
