What to Wear When Working From Home

What to Wear When Working From Home

It’s pretty cool when a client chooses me as her inspiration for an article she wrote for TheWorkAtHomeWoman.com, titled

From PJ’s to Pumps – What to Wear When Working From Home?

If you are a work from home women like me, it is likely you spend a good part of your day in yoga pants, sneakers, and a comfy sweatshirt. In fact, my partner and I work remotely and many days we laugh that it is four o’clock and we are still in our pajamas, working away on our computers. We both dread when clients ask us if we want to Skype because that requires lipstick, makeup, and styled hair.

When I was preparing for our 4th annual conference this spring I found myself facing the same dilemma. Our conference was in Orlando, Florida and I had been living in warm fleece throughout our cold New England winter. I asked Jane Pollak, a business coach I admire who helped her with her outfits and she told me about Scarlett De Bease, a professional Image and Style Coach who specializes in working with women over 40 who are tired of stressing about dressing. I called that day and hired her for a half-day styling session. It was the best investment. She came to my home and helped me create 5 outfits with items I already owned! She also suggested a few additional pieces and sent me the links to shop right online. I followed her advice and I felt great the entire time I was away.

I know I am not alone in these concerns, so I interviewed Scarlett for this article.

But, Is It Really On Sale? Shopping Tips

Since I am a personal shopper, who is always looking to save money, I know a deal when I see one and I love to share shopping tips with my clients and subscribers.

I also know when a sale, is anything but a deal.

I love to check out the clothes and shoes in the TJMaxx name brand section, called The Runway. Often TJMaxx has lots of brands that I see when shopping for my clients in stores and online. Occasionally I find a great deal, but mostly enjoy the hunt for hidden treasures in all of the stores’ departments.

Take a look at the price tags on these Giorgio Armani pants, I found on the clearance rack of The Runway department in my local TJMaxx. Do you see what I saw?

Shopping Tips

Looks like these $795 pants, marked down to $149.99. What a deal, right?

Now look at the original price tag from the store that had these pants before TJMaxx received them.  That store had reduced them all the way down to $99. And still they didn’t sell? Makes one slightly suspicious, but I digress.

Shopping Tips

Be careful when shopping sales racks, and don’t get taken in by false deals.

The Opposite Of What To Wear =Naked

What to wear

Oops.
I must admit that I was dressed very inappropriatley a few weeks ago. I mean, I really messed up.

It all started when I treated myself to a Spa day and for the record, I rarely treat myself to a day of bliss. The irony is not lost on me, as many of the women who hire me, are indeed treating vs ignoring themselves.

I chose to end my day with a Shiatsu massage, and when I made the appointment I remember being asked if I minded having a female therapist. I thought it was odd that I was asked that.

I showered and put on the provided fluffy white robe and joined all the other ultra relaxed women on lounge chairs, waiting for their treatment.

When my name was called, I was brought into the spa treatment area and was introduced to my male therapist. Ohhh, they must have asked if I minded having a male therapist. No matter, as I don’t care.

The Opposite Of What To Wear =Naked

When he brought me into the room, he looked rather puzzled and wanted to know if I understood that this was a Shiatsu massage, and not one using lotions and oils. I told him, that I did not and no problem. I was already so relaxed, nothing was going to effect me. Except I was asking myself why did he look at me that way and wanted to know if I knew what I signed up for.

So, as soon as I got to my bag, I dug out my receipt for my massage and saw these few words:

Please wear loose clothing.

Oops.

For the record, he left the room while I laid on the massage table, and I was covered by sheets.

Note: Read dress codes very carefully.

Love when I see my clients looking so confident, attractive and professional on TV. Here is Cathi Nelson, founder of Association of Personal Photo Organizers (APPO) being interviewed on CBS.
Cathi told me that before working with me, she would never have picked out this purple top and scarf, and she looks beautiful wearing them.
